The Minister of Information and Communications Technology Seyed Sattar Hashemi has stated that the ELECOMP Exhibition symbolizes the resilience of Iran’s ICT sector, saying domestic capabilities in this field will lead to a promising future.
Speaking at the opening ceremony
of the 29th International ELECOMP Exhibition on Monday, he described the event
as a symbol of Iran’s resilience and vitality, stressing that the country’s
domestic capabilities in communications, cybersecurity and artificial
intelligence are among the strengths that can help build a bright future
for Iran.
Hashemi welcomed Mustafa Jabbar
Sanad, Iraq’s Minister of Communications, as well as ambassadors and
representatives of various countries attending the event.
He referred to his recent visit
to Iraq and meeting with the country’s communications minister, he said:
“During my visit to Iraq on 13 July, an opportunity was provided for us to meet
and hold talks with the Iraqi Minister of Communications.”
Referring to plans for a meeting
with Iraq’s Minister of Communications in Geneva, which was cancelled due to
the circumstances in the country, he added, “During the visit to Iraq,
coordination regarding the participation of Iranian pilgrims in the Arbaeen
ceremonies and joint cooperation between the two countries received particular
attention.”
“We subsequently discussed and
examined the potential for cooperation in the fields of information and
communications technology.”
The ICT Minister stated that
during the meeting he had witnessed the “pragmatic approach” of Iraq’s Minister
of Communications and his colleagues, adding, “Accordingly, I invited the Iraqi
Minister of Communications to attend the ELECOMP Exhibition, and fortunately,
we are witnessing his presence at the event today.”
Hashemi also expressed his
appreciation to the Computer Trade Organization of Iran and the organizers of
the ELECOMP Exhibition, noting that holding the exhibition could pave the way
for expanding technological cooperation between the two friendly and brotherly
nations of Iran and Iraq.
ELECOMP, Symbol of Iran’s
Resilience and Endurance
He went on to describe the
holding of ELECOMP 2026 as carrying important messages for the country.
“The first message of this
exhibition is the display of the epic resilience and endurance of the Iranian
people. Despite the difficult circumstances the country has gone through over
the past year, it continues to stand strong by relying on the capabilities of
its youth and elites, as well as its domestic capacities.”
Referring to the damage inflicted
on the country’s communications infrastructure during the Israeli-US imposed-war,
Hashemi said, “The communications sector was among the areas that came under
heavy attack during the war. In one instance, more than 500 of the country’s
communications and infrastructure sites were targeted by the enemy.”
He added that despite these
attacks, communications across the country were not shut down and services remained
operational thanks to the efforts and capabilities of those active in the
sector, demonstrating the importance of the investments and efforts made over
recent years to develop the country’s domestic capacities.
Domestic Communications
Capabilities on Global Level
The ICT Minister described
domestically developed communications products and services as among the major
achievements of the country’s technology industry.
“The round-the-clock efforts of
those active in this sector have resulted in the development of numerous
domestic products and services, some of which, without exaggeration, are on a
par with global standards.”
He expressed hope that the
ELECOMP Exhibition would provide an opportunity to introduce these
capabilities, and added, “At this exhibition, some of the country’s domestic
capabilities and products are being showcased in practical demonstrations and
in person to domestic and foreign visitors and participants, allowing the
country’s technological achievements of recent years to be introduced more
widely.”
Development of Digital Services
Must Go Hand in Hand with Cybersecurity
In another part of his remarks,
Hashemi described cybersecurity as one of the essential requirements for
developing digital services and infrastructure, stressing, “The experience of
recent years has shown that to the same extent that we focus on the development
of digital services, we must also give simultaneous attention to
cybersecurity.”
“Today, specialized cybersecurity
products and solutions with significant capabilities have been developed in the
country, and some of these capacities are also being presented at the ELECOMP
Exhibition,” he said referring to the country’s capabilities in the field of
cybersecurity.
AI Part of Iran’s Capacity for
Building the Future
Hashemi also referred to the
country’s capabilities in the field of artificial intelligence and stated,
“There are also considerable capacities in the field of artificial intelligence
across different sectors of the country, some of which are being introduced and
showcased at ELECOMP 2026.”
Concluding his remarks, he stressed
that the sum of these capabilities is taking shape to build Iran’s future.
“The design and planning for
Iran’s future, relying on domestic capabilities, the potential of young people
and elites, and the development of advanced technologies, convey a clear
message -- By God’s grace, Iran’s future will be a promising one.”
