The Minister of Information and Communication Seyed Sattar Hashemi and the Iraqi Minister of Communications Mustafa Sanad unveiled the joint Iran-Iraq commemorative stamp featuring the ancient Cyrus Cylinder and the Code of Hammurabi.
The initiative which highlights the
historical and cultural heritage of the two nations, underscores efforts to
strengthen bilateral relations and joint cooperation in the fields of
communications and information technology.
The unveiling followed the
meeting of Hashemi and Sanad in Tehran on Monday in which they explored avenues
for expanding technological and communications cooperation between the two neighboring
countries.
Expressing appreciation for the
visit of the Iraqi minister, Hashemi described technology diplomacy as one of
the key items on the agenda of the ICT Ministry.
Referring to the his visit to
Iraq in July, he said it had been undertaken to plan and make preparations for
the march of Arbaeen pilgrims and provided an opportunity for discussions and
agreements on various issues in the field of ICT.
Hashemi added that, on the
sidelines of the visit, it was agreed that the presence of an Iraqi delegation
at the ELECOMP Exhibition in Tehran would provide the groundwork for expanding cooperation,
exchanging experiences, and utilizing the technological capabilities of the two
countries.
The two ministers also emphasized
expanding Iran-Iraq cooperation in areas including cybersecurity, training and
capacity building of human resources in the field of information and
communications technology, development of communications infrastructure, and
the exchange of experiences and indigenous technologies.
Mustafa Sanad, Minister of
Communications of Iraq, pointed to Iran’s technological capabilities,
describing its access to indigenous, secure, and self-reliant technologies as
one of the country’s major strengths.
He emphasized Iraq’s use of these
capabilities to develop its communications infrastructure and services.
